Ben Abelson

Ben Abelson is an assistant philosophy professor in the humanities department at Mercy College. He is a New York City native who received his B.A. from Hunter College, (where he taught as an adjunct for several years) and his Ph.D. in Philosophy (2015) from the City University of New York Graduate Center. His dissertation was an analysis of the concept of a person, in which he defines a person as a being that jointly possesses the capacities for self-consciousness and concern. 

Ben's primary research interests are personal identity, the nature of responsibility, the foundations of psychology and psychotherapy, the influence of emotions on behavior, the relationship between art and pop culture, the influence of science fiction on philosophy and vice-versa, and the philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche.
