OlioMuse | Beethoven's Minor Mood

Gustav Klimt - Beethoven Frieze (re-creation)

The difference between major and minor tonalities is something that most listeners - veterans and neophytes alike - can detect. A major-mode work might strike a listener as joyous, triumphant, heroic, or ebullient, while a minor-mode work might be associated with sadness, lamentation, despair and the like. In contrast to his classical-era predecessors, Beethoven embraced the minor mode in many of his most famous works, including the Pathetique Sonata, Moonlight Sonata, Fifth Symphony, and more. In this Olio, Professor Gil Harel, accompanied by Cellists of Groupmuse, will take us through the expressive qualities of these Beethoven works and discuss their role in revolutionizing music of the 19th century.

*There will be complimentary beer sponsored by Sixpoint Brewery at this OlioMuse and tickets go fast so come snag a spot on the floor to relax and enjoy the warmth and double stimulation of this live music Olio.*
