Glassworks | A Deep Listening Party

Listen to everything all the time and remind yourself when you are not listening.
-Pauline Oliveros

Join us for an intimate and after-hours Olio for a guided listening of Philip Glass's album Glassworks. A pivotal album of it's time, Glassworks was released in 1982 on LP as a continuous 'classical' composition. At a time when Indian ragas and sitar music was all the rage, minimalism broke into the 'popular' music genre with crossover artists like Philip Glass (who later would release the collaborative albumSongs from Liquid Days (1986)).

We'll begin the evening by talking about different modes of listening as advocated by composers like Copland, Bernstein, and Oliveros, and jump into a listening of Alvin Lucier's I am Sitting in a Room before delving into a non-stop listening of Glass's Glassworks. Come in comfortable clothing (read: pajamas) and prepare to sink into your auditory surroundings for this one-of-a-kind Olio event.

Location: Living Room

Address will be shared with attendees.

Living Room Salons take place in a Think Olio member's apartment to provide an intimate learning environment. We'll email you the exact address upon rsvp.

Interdisciplinary Learning with the Best Professors

Think Olio is not about learning a new skill or adding credentials to your resume. It is about getting together with other people and expanding our worldview. It exists as a conduit for fruitful discussions, a dissent from the regurgitation of facts, and an embrace of new perspectives.
