FDR Felt The Bern: Bernie Sanders in Historical Perspective

This Olio will explore the historical context behind Bernie Sanders' 2016 presidential campaign. We will pay particular attention to American political history since the Great Depression in explaining Sanders' ideas and policies, but we will also be exploring the rise of Jacksonian democracy in the 1830s and the populist and progressive movements of the 19th and early 20th century.  Attendees are encouraged to bring iPhones and/or tablets, as we will be reviewing Sanders' Facebook page and Twitter feeds, as well as examine other multimedia and images related to the history of American political culture.

Interdisciplinary Learning with the Best Professors

Think Olio is not about learning a new skill or adding credentials to your resume. It is about getting together with other people and expanding our worldview. It exists as a conduit for fruitful discussions, a dissent from the regurgitation of facts, and an embrace of new perspectives.
