In his important critical work Danse Macabre, the famous "horror-meister" Stephen King identifies a few fundamental horror archetypes; these include the vampire, the werewolf, and the "thing without a name." King, like some other horror writers and critics, maintains that examining these archetypes and the continued popularity of the horror genre leads directly to an examination of some of the darkest and most dangerous corners of the human psyche. We'll discuss this idea and how we might choose to contextualize this concept in terms of contemporary society.
