Think Olio x Brooklyn Museum | America Was Never White

Jamie Warren at The Brooklyn Museum

Sat, Jul 7 at 6 p.m.   |   90 minutes

In this Olio we will join together in this political action of reading and remembering, fittingly, on Independence Day weekend.

Beginning in the era of Jim Crow, then waxing and waning throughout the twentieth century, our nation’s historical memory of slavery and the Civil War has routinely minimized the centrality of race-based human bondage, thereby implicitly minimizing the centrality of white supremacy in our collective present.

Let's join together in this political action of reading and remembering, fittingly, on Independence Day weekend. We'll use this as a day to remember and honor the history of black Americans amidst the cultural cancer of white-supremacist historical revisioning.

What is Think Olio?

Think Olio is here to put the liberation back into the liberal arts.

Classically, the liberal arts, were the education considered essential for a free person to take an active part in civic life. To counter a humanities that has been institutionalized and dehumanized we infuse critical thinking, openness, playfulness, and compassion into our learning experience.
